Nuri and the Whale

Nuri generously feeds a small fish, thereby following the words of his father: "Cast your bread upon the waters…" He later learns the meaning of these words: if you are generous and give kindly to others, you will be rewarded in life:

This idiom suggests that we sow seeds of grain by a source of water, because produce will always grow there. It is also a metaphor for giving: we should be kind to others, because in future, we may be rewarded for it.
