An oud in the orchestra

By: Sarah Sasson • Illustrations: Yael Albert

The Kuwaiti brothers are amazing at playing the oud, but they understand that Iraq is no longer suitable for Jewish musicians like them. When they immigrate to Israel, they are disappointed to discover that there is no place for their melodies in Israel either. Until the wish of one grandchild restores its glory to its former glory, and a beloved melody – to the family.

Age Group: Second Grade

A melody can serve as a bridge – between grandfather and grandson, between Iraq and Israel, and between different cultures. The story invites us to discover that even when doors are closed, true desire, perseverance, and connection to the roots within us can reopen them.
