The Melody

By: Oded Burla illustrations: Asaf Benharroch

The melody in the story ponders: "What good am I if no one notices me, listens to me or says how beautiful this melody is!" It sets out and asks nature around it – the mountains, rocks, wildlife and trees – if they want it, but is constantly rejected, until, without asking, it enters a loving mother's heart, and the mother begins to sing her baby girl a lullaby.

The melody in our hearts

Age Group: PRESCHOOL

Each one of us, at every age, can certainly identify with the melody’s feelings as portrayed in the story. For if no one sees or hears us – who are we? A single person who sees us and wants us brings joy and a sense of value into our hearts.

The melody looks for its place in the world, and finds it in the special bond between a parent and their child.

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Oded Burla’s birth, we are delighted to give you this wonderful story, which helps parents and children alike listen out together for the melodies in their hearts.

Sifriyat Pijama wishes you a lovely summer!
