By: Tami Shem-Tov & Rachella Sandbank illustrations: Avi Ofer

A Concert in the Sand invites us to learn about a real-life event: the first Philharmonic Orchestra concert held in Tel Aviv in December 1936. It was a festive and exciting occasion in the small town of Tel Aviv, conducted by famous Italian maestro Arturo Toscanini, and attended by the British High Commissioner and President of the Jewish Agency, Haim Weizmann. When the High Commissioner entered the hall, the orchestra played Hatikva as well as the British national anthem. It was comprised of top musicians who came to Israel from Europe thanks to Jewish violinist Bronislaw Huberman.   Enjoy reading this book together!
