A Good Day

A bird, dog, fox and squirrel start off their day "on the wrong foot": one loses its nut, the other gets its leash tangled, the fox cannot find its mother, and the bird loses a prized tail feather. We can all identify with the feeling that a day gone wrong stirs in us: when the children wake up late, and you rush out of the house, say a tearful goodbye, and it seems everyone is headed for a bad day. The belief that things can change and improve is rooted in Jewish tradition. Rabbi Yisroel Salanter was quoted as saying "as long as the candle is burning, you can still mend", meaning, anyone can turn a situation around for the better. The book A Good Day demonstrates how left can turn into right, and a day that began with a tear can end in a smile.
