TheFoxAnnouncesPeace

By: Levin Kipnis illustrations: Reut Bortz

The fox tries to fool the rooster: In order to catch it, it tells the rooster that peace has arrived, and they can therefore spend time together safely. The fox is certain no one can outsmart it, but its adversary, the rooster, is about to prove him wrong. This Kipnis classic is written in beautiful, amusing Hebrew.

Age Group: SECOND GRADE

Before his one hundredth birthday, Levin Kipnis wrote the following:

I was privileged enough to plant trees in Israeli soil. I was privileged enough to see Israeli children bring first fruit while singing: “Saleinu al Ktefeinu [Our baskets are on our shoulders – a well-known children’s song written by Kipnis himself]”. I was privileged enough to write books for children and infants… I was privileged, I was privileged, and I have been privileged.”

[Levin Kipnis, Who Gave Voice to the Dumb?, Tammuz Publishing]

Kipnis was a prolific children’s author, enriching Israeli children’s language, and incorporating ancient scripture in his writing. His work accompanies generations of Israeli children on holidays, changes in seasons, poetry, fairytale, riddles, and stories.
