On each of the eight days of Hanukkah, the Shamash lights the holiday candles, the light of the Menorah grows, whilst that of the Shamash does not diminish. Can others, like candles, give of their light without losing any of it? Our Rabbis believed that candles can teach us life lessons: those of us who give to others, and do good by them, take nothing away from themselves.
